Of course, I don't use how properly a game is rated as grounds for whether or not I like it either. And I don't hate all of Rare's games, I just didn't think they were as good as people say they are. I was into DK64 for a while, but I've seen much better games. B-K did have a thing or two going for it. Conker was entertaining, but the gameplay was pretty much the same as its predecessors'. A game can be overrated (like FF7) and still be one of my all-time favorite games. I just don't like Rare that much. I'll admit, I'd rather play one of their games than most new age games anyday, but there are still plenty of games that I prefer over Rare. DKC and DKC2 are the only Rare games that I consider to be good. (Well, Goldeneye a little, and I haven't played Perfect Dark.)
Regarding JFG, I bought the game almost immediately after it came out, so there weren't very many reviews for it, just Nintendo's typical hype which I learned to tune out. I hardly ever touched it afterwards because it was just plain... well, boring, and also somewhat annoying. The scenery was nice, but the puzzles were next to impossible to solve and the enemies would not f*ck off long enough for me to get to the other side of the screen, or to even fight back. So... yeah, I gladly traded that game for Starfox 64, which I had traded to my friend for his Super Game Boy. (A mistake if ever there was one, but at least I got it back for a small price. He enjoyed JFG and I'm happy for him 'cause I didn't like it.)
