I'm with Weltall here. Finally, someone else who thinks Rare is so heavily overrated it's not even funny. I liked a few of their games (all, or should I say both, were for the SNES: DKC and DKC2... DKC3 was all right, I guess.) However, their new age games never appealed to me. Banjo-Kazooie had its moments of mediocracy; Banjo-Tooie got old almost as soon as I turned it on; Donkey Kong 64 is underrated in my opinion, but still not that great; Conker's Bad Fur Day is possibly the absolute most overrated games in the history of gaming (I wouldn't say I hate it, but I'm not really a fan of it); Goldeneye was fun for a while, as I saw a bit of depth in it with the mission objectives and all; I've never played Perfect Dark, but I've heard that it's a better version of Goldeneye, so I'd probably like it, though I'll probably discover that it, too, is overrated; Diddy Kong Racing was... ugh, total shyte; Jet Force Gemini... I take back what I said about Conker... THIS is the most overrated game in the history of gaming... honestly, this game bored the hell out of me; and as for Starfox Adventures, I've played very little of it, so I can't make a judgment on it, but it actually looks pretty good to me. (I'd probably still prefer Starfox 64 though.)
Sadly, Rare was almost all N64 had going for it, and only a few first-party titles and some games by HAL outmatched them. If someone asked me to recommend some good games, I don't think I'd mention a single Rare title.
Once again, this is all just my opinion, but I'm glad to know that somebody else (Weltall) shares it. Sometimes, it just makes me sick listening to people talk about how great Rare is, especially when they compare it to (or refer to it as being superior to) companies that I hold in much higher regard. No offense to anyone whose opinions differ from mine; you're as free to like Rare as I am to hate 'em.
