A Black Falcon Wrote:Rare made ten N64 games. Eight are great (Yes, I think that both Banjo games, Conker, DK64, PD, GE007, Blast Corps, and JFG are all great games. So should everyone. :)) and two are okay (KI Gold and Mickey's Racing Adventure).
Since then they have made one for Cube (SFA) and one for X-Box, both just above average...
Anyway, of all those games the only ones that aren't their franchises are DK64, Goldeneye, the Mickey racing game, and Star Fox Adventures... so no it's not like they've made lots of liscenced games. Four of those twelve.
Out of those, I played Banjo 1, Conker, JFG and a little PD. I did not like Banjo, I did not like JFG at all, I thought Conker was unbelievably overrated, and I didn't play enough PD to really say for sure.
Rare still has a franchise problem though. Banjo? Not exactly geared to the X-Box crowd. Nor is JFG. PD is really the only one that is still viable to them.
I still think dropping Rare was a stroke of genius for Nintendo, especially considering they made MS drop a serious ton of cash for them. Rare is very overrated (I've held this opinion in the N64 days and I still believe it), and MS has reaped no rewards from their purchase. I expect that trend to continue. Rare flourished on the N64 because there were no other developers competing with them. They benefited from the machine's lack of software. It is quite obvious though that on XBox, Rare is overmatched by several other devs. They made one lousy game, and no one talks about them anymore. I couldn't be happier. :)
