The magnetic field has switched plenty of times before... it just means that the polarity is reversed. You don't have to call the North pole South or something, just say that the polarity is opposite but because we arbitrarially call the Arctic 'up', the North pole stays in the North.
It'll just be the polarity that is currently on the South Magnetic Pole. :)
(I think compasses would still work... though they might point in the 'opposite' direction or something...)
