More expensive? It would seem like life is more expensive, wouldn't it... however, data seems to suggest that it's actually not. The costs of the death penalty are very high... you'd be surprised at how much the death penalty costs compared to life in prison. There are a lot of costs related to the death penalty (years of unending appeals are a big part of that, but also much more expensive jail costs for death row, etc...) that aren't involved with lesser punishments. And then the execution itsself costs quite a bit.
And why the "nevertheless"? Uhh, Republicans are the party for the death penalty FAR more than Democrats are...
