Exactly. That whole Final Fantasy numbering thing was very messy and to this day when I talk about Final Fantasy 2 some people still think I'm talking about Final Fantasy 4. In fact, a VERY badly done review of Final Fantasy Origins prooves they never bothered beating FF2 because they say "and you'll meet Cecil and Kain and such as the adventure goes on". Though, to be honest I'm fully aware that in this case it wouldn't be nearly as confusing a mess and not really all that big a deal even if it was that big a mess.
I still love how Square thought naming FF4 "FF2" when it was released here (and FF6 "FF3" to boot) would actually make things EASIER for them :D.
Oh, on a totally unrelated note nobody asked for, I found out that the whole FF4 Easy Type thing that everyone knows about isn't totally accurate. According to a web site with all sorts of photos and such, it turns out Easy Type was released in Japan AFTER our version of the game was released. In other words, all the easiness and ability/item/scene removing and altering they did wasn't just porting over an already existing cheaped out version (with a horrible translation to boot), but in fact was ALL Square of America's doing. I do wonder why on Earth Square Japan thought it would be a good idea to rererelease our version in Japan (with the original text and a few more alterations, like more powerful weapons earlier in the game and a different end boss sprite) as some sort of easytype though. I guess even in Japan they wanted to expand their customer base to those who aren't exactly the most savvy at RPGs.
