Ah yes, creature features :D. I think that would be cool regardless of the mode picked. Oh, you once said that they should add animals that aren't out to get you. You may not have noticed, but a large number of the creatures on Tallon ARE just minding their own business until YOU show up and startle them into assault. Those lighty bug things don't even try to attack you, you have to actually run INTO them. Those electrical creatures aren't the least bit interested in you. Those things they drop are just waste, only deadly to organic things :D. It can't get too much more harmless without making them totally helpless thus just creating sheep (the most pathetic life form there is, Jesus isn't complementing us when he calls us that). There are also various birds, fish, plants, and some small bugs, that are totally benign.
I do think creatures attacking each other would be cool. Something like how Metroids and Pirates sometimes fight each other (that's cool enough I don't even bother shooting just to watch it).
The problem is that while in single player the weapons are diverse enough, in multi they all pretty much do the same overall thing, except ice which has something special about it. They should add many more beam weapons (keeping them until you die is a fine idea) with many different feature to make it more diverse. In fact, it could borrow from HALO a bit and limit you to just 4 beam weapons, where you need to delete one weapon type after that to add a new one (that's how Metroid 1 and 2 worked anyway). Then again, Prime 2 may very well already be making the weapons very diverse in function, so who knows...
Oh and yes, FPS games have been lack regarding environmental interaction for too long. They toss in an occasional detonatable wall and let you shoot out a few lights and call it progress? No thank you! As you said, having to think of consequences mid battle would really make it fun. In ice, plasma weapons could cause an avalange (as the 4th state of matter tends to do), while in an industrial area, if you miss with an electric attack, you fry the computer, and maybe access to a room with a powerup for the rest of the match (of course if anyone happens to be in there, it will allow them OUT of there). If you are near water, you can use ice to freeze it and walk across instead of taking a long route. It would be cool to hide behind a row of sentry guns, then panic when suddenly someone finds the right panel to scan to disable them .
All these things would be fun if indeed they take the time to really develop multi with a different interaction (no lock on for instance, that ruins one on one battles in multi, and the excuse would be that Samus' suit sends out a frequency of some kind that jams lock-on technology, which really doesn't make that much sense but it's multiplayer, with 4 Samuses, it doesn't NEED to make that much sense). However, we have Time Splitters 2 already. I want something original!
And now for Metroid Prime 2 Multiplayer: The Musical!
