I like your idea too but since more and more devs are spending just as much time on the MP as the single player games it would definately benifet from the overhaul of mechanics. I mean the Morphball Battle would simply re-use textures and models from single player, the only difference would be slight variations on what you're limited to doing and of course the level designs and menu screens, but no biggie.
The Perfect Dark variation could be done the same way with slight variations on what already exists. like what you said about turning for example, just speed it up to match the PD/Ge pace. You would start out with nothing, just Samus in her Power Suit, and the artifacts around the level would allow for upgrades that you keep until you die (since grabbing weapons would be kinda lame, Samus IS a weapon).
Then throw in variations on levels - An underground dark cave with magma flows and Spiderball tracks, flaming vents etc, then have two elevators, one to the far right of the level the other in the center (which would take you to a great location for hiding, upgrades, etc) while the other leads you to path ways back to the center elevator.
Make the top side of the arena snow covered and with destroyed buildings to snipe from. I'd also like to see more in-depth level design, like an ice cave with few places to hide, but if you fire off a round from your weapon the place starts to slowly fall apart. Things like that would make for great fire-fights. And since we're on a living planet let's put in a new twist to deathmatch gameplay, put in enemies and various animals around the arena that mostly keep to themselves and ignore you, but you can trick them in to strategic areas and prepare a trap for someone who's stalking you. WHAM they're lunchmeat.
You could even make it so that if you protect the animals they'll help you out and attack other players for you. Or start wars between different species to create diversions. That would be interesting.
