Exactly, and it keeps killing the "host" that is the companies trying to please shareholders in the short term with no regard for the long term. Shareholder culture itself needs to change rather dramatically as well. They're all too bullish, seeking immediate "buy low sell high" returns, and they need to get more bearish, concerned with long term dividends, which only requires that a company stay profitable, and doesn't require eternal growth.
