Yeah. A lot of things about this remaster are weird though, it feels unfinished.
For example, if you do find a multiplayer match in WCIIR, I've found that the frequent result is getting cannon-rushed, which is absolutely no fun and doesn't make me want to keep playing. But it's not even really my fault, because one of the bizarre decisions they have made with this game is that starting locations aren't randomized! That's right, every time you start in a specific slot you go into the same spot on the map. So why WOULDN'T people constantly cannon rush? You know where your opponents are starting, it's not random like it should be! Until they fix this the multiplayer probably isn't worth playing...
As for the WCI Remaster, I played another mission of it and had a lot of fun, but the absence of the post-game video clips on the stats screen really hurts and makes me not want to continue until they fix this absence. They have fixed the mission briefings, which now animate as they should, but the FMV map sequences and win/loss videos are still gone. I appreciate the aspect ratio fix and the animating mission briefings but more is needed before I really want to play the rest of the game, it's missing important stuff. As for the game though, the combination of very slow unit movement speed and very low viewing distance -- most units can only see like two or three tiles ahead -- makes WCI a tense experience in a way later RTSes don't replicate. Of course it doesn't have fog to re-cover areas of the map you aren't currently looking at, once an area is revealed you can see it for the rest of the mission, but still, it's an interestingly tense game which feels harder than WCIIR did. Is this slow and limited visibility design BETTER? No, but it's different and fun once in a while.
