It's not really a rental, it's a free game that you can only play while subscribed to Nintendo Online. I guess that's kind of a "rental", but only in the way that all three consoles require subscriptions to play any games online.
As for the game, it's a completely different thing from Tetris Effect; this game is multiplayer-only instead of single player only, adds the whole 'which person should you target' system, has classic Nintendo Tetris music, and was developed by Arika, the developer of the Tetris the Grandmaster arcade series years ago. Anyone who has a Nintendo Online subscription should try it out, I think...
