PC Platformers Game Opinion Summaries

Most all modern PC platformers let you use any Xbox 360-compatible controller, that's what xinput is. Older games usually work with gamepads too, you just need a directinput PC gamepad. You can also run most xinput games on directinput games and vice versa with the right emulation software.

Your joke line there isn't entirely wrong though -- one thing I've complained about many times in this series are games which want you to aim with the mouse and move on keyboard at the same time. I just don't think that makes for good controls or gameplay in a platformer, that kind of controls is almost always so awkward... and yes, jumping is one thing that can be hard to do in those games. And just 'use a gamepad' is not always the solution, because then you usually get much less precise aiming, and because you need to use both sticks for the game you're stuck with jump on a shoulder button which I think is almost always terrible.

So yeah, I don't usually like the controls in platformers that try to use two analog sticks or mouse and keyboard at the same time. But conventional platformers on the PC control just as well as they do on consoles, provided that the game runs correctly on your PC of course... but that's a different issue. :p
