Yeah, DJ, come on, they weren't doing anything bad like that, they were just the most incompetently-run developer in the history of the industry!
If Carmack has ever actually been involved with any of the gameplay of id's games, I'd be surprised. He loves building and tweaking engines and that's about it.
People hated it because it was total garbage.
