I don't like realistic (like, realistic-handing) racing games either, but I do like analog controls in racing games... in something like Wipeout XL, analog versus digital makes a HUGE difference. And of course, that game's about as far from realistic as you can get.
As for why I have a wheel for the PS1, that's mostly because it was $5 at Goodwill. I almost never use it; I generally am better with gamepads.
