Smash TV is a great game, and there are console ports -- it was on the NES and SNES, and surely more. It's also in the Midway Arcade Treasures 1 collection for GC/PS2/Xbox; I got the GC version back when it came out. Good collection, and Smash TV was one of the best games in it... (As for those older console releases, the NES one doesn't look so good, but the SNES is decent; the four button layout is a decent analog stick replacement.)
Smash TV is basically an updated version of the early '80s arcade hit Robotron 2084, which is on a huge number of systems. Perhaps you've played that sometime? Very good game.
And on that note, UFO! for the O2 feels very much like a twinstick-shooter predecessor... that's part of why I love that game.

Quote:No disrespect to Breakout! of course. That game is a classic.I don't really like Breakout, it's too boring... but I like the genre it created; Arkanoid's a great game.
