Over 20 million sold in the US isn't obscure. It is true that Goldeneye was one of the best selling games on the system, though (8 million sold worldwide, and remember that the N64 had only 32 million sold worldwide)... but anyway, while it is perhaps true that MS bought Rare to hurt Nintendo, with the amount of money they spent for Rare, they had to have had expectations for more popular games from them. I mean, they paid Nintendo quite a bit of money to get Rare... and didn't get much back for it.
