That's the game's excuse, but I sort of agree that it's a somewhat bad excuse to have a game where you kill things which appear to be highschoolers. I agree it's a little disturbing, even if they aren't actually human but vampires.

Quote:What do you mean it's "very Japan"? You're trying to say Japan's all perverts or something?
There is a huge market for such games there, you know... "All", though? Of course not. Only a relatively small group play such games.

Quote:Anyway, I'm saying the game is about stripping underage girls (unless we're intended to think this is a summer school for the slower students).
Japanese computer hentai (drawn porn) games often go way farther than that. Console games have more restrictions, though, so you get games with the sex removed, stuff like this, etc.

... I'd say that overall part of the issue is that Japan is more sexist than the West and is kind of messed up (why in the world is so much hentai about rape, for instance? And so many quite underage girls... it's not real so they can make it if they want (I do not think things like that should be banned as long as it's just drawings and doesn't involve anything real), I more wonder about why there's so much of a market for it...), and part of the issue (for us) is that the US is much more prudish about sex. Some of America's views on that have rubbed off on Japan over the past 150 years, they're quite different from how they were before then on the issue, but there still are significant differences. Europe's more accepting of sexuality than the US, but I think it's safe to guess that they're just as disturbed as the US is by the pervasive sexism in the stuff.

For an example of htat, see these recent reviews of the recent PS3 RPG Hyperdimension Neptunia, a game where the characters are all human representations of videogame companies. You play as Neptune, representing Sega (and the canceled Genesis-32X hybrid Sega Neptune system, I presume), other party members represent Sony, Nintendo, etc. All characters are female of course. The game's from Compile Heart, who apparently aren't very well liked in terms of quality, but some of the reaction in the Western press (the game was just recently released here) wasn't about that...

In Japan they have no problem with the sexism of course (I really wish Japan would deal with its gender issues sometime, but no signs of that happening sadly), but some conservatives do have a problem with otaku, so they're (or the mayor of Toyko, in particular, but with how huge Tokyo is that has a big national impact) currently targeting mangas that they thing aren't appropriate for all audiences.
