That's kind of a disingenuous comparison. Apple is the sole manufacturer and distributor of the iPhone, and there is only ever one 'current' model. Androids come in many different models, manufactured and distributed by several different companies, all independent of Google.
Just as, you would almost certainly find OSX much more even with Windows in market penetration these days if Apple did not stupidly insist on keeping it exclusive to their own proprietary hardware.
