Sadly, I'm in one of those states. My mom almost lost her job due to her location closing (she works at Office Depot). At the last minute, though, she was relocated to another Office Depot, and she even got a promotion! Nevertheless, a lot of people are out of work in this state like in every other state, and most didn't get severance pay when they lost their jobs (especially if they worked for a company like Circuit City that has closed altogether). Alabama Governor Bob Riley rejected $66 million in stimulus money that was going mainly to the unemployed. Sadly, this is a red state and most of the people here are set in their ways of thinking (or rather, are set in their ways of voting and are devoid of thinking).
To quote Jon Stewart: Last I checked, Democratic money can still be exchanged for goods and services. I know it's not as good as Republican money, but it's no peso!
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at how true that quote is. I suppose I should laugh at the quote and cry at the truth behind it.
