Yeah, he's really taking every possible measure to delay what seems to be the inevitable - delaying two confidence votes which he would have lost, and then suspending Parliament altogether. In the meantime, the Conservatives have a lot of money to spend, so there's gonna be a flurry of attack ads on all the Oppositions parties. One of Harper's top advisers advocates basically kneecapping the Opposition, so things are gonna get pretty ugly from now until Jan. 21, when Parliament will reconvene and the Conservatives will deliver a revised budget plan. If an election's called after the Conservatives lose the support of the house in January, the Opposition parties won't even run any members against each other, effectively ensuring that the Conservatives can't get a majority anyways. The tories have basically been check-mated. So hooray! Our next government will probably be comprised of the Liberal party mixed in with the Socialist and Quebec Nationalism parties. How can anything go wrong?
