XGRA is probably my favorite racing game of the generation, actually. It's that or F-Zero GX, but F-Zero GX is so ridiculously hard that it's often not very fun... XGRA isn't like that. :)
I just got Powerdrome a few days ago, for $1 at Gamestop because they have like 20 copies, at least, and it's better than I was expecting. I was expecting an okay futuristic racing game, but it's actually quite good... B+/A- territory really, for a futuristic racing game fan at least. It's not all that hard so far, but it's a lot of fun... for $1 or $2, anyone with a PS2 should own a copy. :) (It's also on Xbox and is obviously better there, with 4 player multiplayer and, I imagine, better graphics, but seems to be less common there. The PS2 version is still pretty good (apart from the 2 player only limit), and is incredibly cheap and common.)
I hadn't heard of Galaxy 5000 before starting making this list a couple of days ago. I should definitely try it...
As for my favorite, my favorite racing game ever is San Francisco Rush 2049, which also happens to be futuristic. :) The rest of my top 5 is tough, but I think it's ... well, it's seven or eight games really in that top "five" -- F-Zero, F-Zero X, F-Zero GX, XGRA, San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing (N64/Arcade), Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA, San Francisco Rush 2049, and Wipeout 64. :) The only non-futuristic games on that list are the first two Rush games, which are completely brilliant.
But what order, after Rush 2049? That I'm not sure about... and I don't know if I could easily make it ten. There are just so many worthy games -- Pod, Daytona USA, XG2, Rollcage, Rollcage Stage II, Outrun 2019, Hydro Thunder, Micro Machines (the original), perhaps Micro Machines 2 and Micro Machines V3 (I love that series!), and more... what would I choose?
Oh, and if there's one arcade racing game I wish had a home port but doesn't, it's Motor Raid. Sure you can play it in emulation now, but why wasn't there a Saturn or Dreamcast version, Sega? There should have been, it's running on the Manx TT Superbike engine, and that game was ported to Saturn... Motor Raid looks like a lot of fun, but was arcade only. :(

Quote:Galaxy 5000 was actually a lot of fun, I prefer R.C. Pro-Am because it's... better. But the level of customization and weapons in G5g was great.
