That's a perfectly honest question. Just because it's SUPPOSED to be one hour photo doesn't mean it always is. The guy very likely called the day before and was told they were NOT ready, and he himself may already be writing some post somewhere about how the "one hour photo" may take a "bit longer".
Don't assume people are idiots. The fact is, sometimes it's the store's fault someone has to ask such a question.
Now I don't get photos developed because I live in the 21st century, but I HAVE had to ask questions of people that should be "obvious". For example, they might have a GIANT SIGN right on the register saying "This game in TODAY!" but I HAVE TO ASK THEM if they actually HAVE said game if I can't find it myself. Sometimes, they give me a totally unwarrented "idiot glare" like you probably do, but in all honesty sometimes it's not because they sold out but because they never got the game in that day like they were supposd to, or maybe it's something retarded like they never even unpacked the box.
I have family members who are forced at this point, when someone says their car is ready after a repair, to literally ask them as they are paying if the car was repaired. Does that sound retarded to you? It shouldn't. It's a totally legitimate question because, on more than one occasion, some family members of mine have gotten in their car, attempted to drive off, then looked under the hood and found out they NEVER EVEN BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE SHOP.
At any rate, yes it's absolutely stupid that a guy would have to ask that question, but the stupidity isn't his, it's the photo lab's.
