Number one, if your system is out of order, put up a sign. For all I know, the screen activates when I insert a disk. I don't know how your system is programmed. If this is a common enough problem that you have to rant about it, I would think it's worth making a sign for.
The math for that person is "543 times X seconds to do photo". There is not sufficient data for them to know it'll take a good 45 minutes. Just politely tell them it won't take a while. If someone else asks that question the next night, respond the same way. It's just what you need to do.
Part C, yeah I can see how it would be annoying, but I don't see anything too unreasonable as far as what to expect from people coming in. Most people aren't photographers, and what sort of machine can't eject a disk when it is powered down? Clearly it isn't like the computers they are used to working with, and hey every one of these places is different.
Don't be like the idiots at a Starbucks that feel the need to pretend they have no idea how to translate a request for "large" into their stupid designations. (Seriously, how dumb do they think I am? You KNOW what I want! Kids these days with their video games and... the tuba!)
