No, you just need some kind of USB or normal power outlet sensor bar or something. It's the same with the PC wiimote thing, you need to come up with something to replicate the sensor bar for that too. It's not insurmountable, but an issue.
But yes, you're probably right that it's enough of an issue to dissuade anyone from seriously thinking about the idea. Extra hardware required... yeah, that's not the best idea. Even so, it IS possible, given that the sensor bar is just some sources for the wiimote to pick up, not anything really special.
