... who would be using an X360 at work or at the library? Wait, you mean people on X360s talking to people on PCs who can't turn on their speakers? Talk about niche audiences...

It was just an example. There are other reasons such as I don't want to actually speak to every person I message. You know, like when you have multiple messenger windows open and you're carrying on sparse conversations...

Also, don't forget that the 360 only has one-on-one voice chat at this point so this will allow for multiple simultaneous contacts. (I don't know why MS axed party chat from Live)

I'll agree that USB keyboard support would have been a much more welcome announcement.
