In both cases you're altering the original game to include something that the developers didn't intend. Whether it's replacing bad textures with better ones or bad music with good music.
In his defense it seems he'd have no problem with higher quality sound files of the same songs.
However, some games just have truly aweful music, namely EVERY sports or racing game (F-Zero and Mario Kart and a number of Mario sports games come to my mind as exceptions). If the music is just plain bad, I have no qualms about replacing it despite what the developer had in mind.
Speaking of, I hope Lumines 3 allows a custom level creation utility that lets me make my own areas with custom backgrounds, "blocks", sounds,
timings" and most importantly the main song. It has something sorta like that in 2, but it is a little disappointing because it's just a midi song creation tool instead of allowing one to load an mp3 off the memory stick. At the very least, that last part is a must. Seriously, there's bad and then there's "Hollebak Girl". I guess Hollebak is some town or something, at any rate at least I can stack a custom playlist of songs and avoid the terrible ones.
