ABF, I'm with you on "first time through, do it the way the developers intended". After that, then I add all sorts of tweaks like "lock bash" which allows me to use brute force to break open locks using strength stat and lock difficulty to determine how hard it is ("requires the key" locks are unbreakable). I also love this other Oblivion mod that keeps the guards from having psychic powers, as in instantly knowing that someone is bieng killed in their basement from a mile away. With this mod, they only know if they are within the range of the guy's scream when someone says "stop thief" or whatever. Mind you, they can still run for help but there's a speed of transfering information and if no one sees a murder, they don't know who did it. However, I would like to see a complicated mod that adds detectives going all Sherlock Holmes to compliment it, so if you murder someone, they start analyzing dirt on the guy's shoes or the shape of the weapon imprint to figure out who done it (flag the victim with whatever weapon did it and then if I still have it equipped, I get questioned by guards, and if I talked to anyone on the way there, nearby, they start interviewing people and then looking for all the characters that interacted with the one they talked to during the time of the crime, that sort of thing).
