The game was made to be played with the music it came with, and it just seems wrong to me to use something else... it's not the way it was meant to be.
As for licensed music... hmm, I don't think I own that many games with licensed music, or at least licensed music I dislike... virtually all SNES, Genesis, Sega CD (it's like a console with CD-quality sound, but chip music styles of music production... great stuff. :) Not that I don't like chip music too, I definitely do...), GB, GBC, GBA, N64, and DS games, and most Gamecube games, use their own music, not licensed stuff. Not sure about the PSX, but I think that was mostly original too (though not all I'm sure). Same for most all of my PC games. There are some exceptions among the games I own -- the Wipeout games and Extreme-G 3 and XGRA have liscensed music, but it's great, quite fitting techno stuff. SSX3 has licensed music, but it was mostly good. Burnout 1 and 2 (for GC, obviously the only two in the series I have)... I don't know what their soundtracks are. I found them boring... not bad, but more just kind of quiet and irrelevant. They're there, but aren't anything special... still though, I'd never listen to something else instead over them.
I just don't buy sports games or extreme sports titles, and those are some of the main genres with licensed music. I do buy racing games sometimes, and newer racing games often do license their music, which is probably why most of the games I can think of that I own with potential licensed music are racing games... SSX3 (half extreme sports I know, but it's also racing), XG, Wipeout, Burnout, maybe some others... still though, most of the racing games I own don't do that. I'm sure newer Need for Speed games license their music, but the ones I have -- NFS 1 and NFSHS -- don't, I believe. Other than Wipeout 64, I can't think of any N64 games I own with licensed soundtracks. Etc.
Really though, I like videogame soundtracks. Right now, for instance, I'm listening to the midi soundtrack of Quest for Glory 3... :) There's a reason that most of the music (mp3s) on my harddrive are the soundtracks of all of my computer and video games with burnable or copyable music on their discs... I like listening to it.
What in the world does this have to do with anything? I know nothing about that band, of course, but whatever it is exactly that you mean, I doubt that I agree. :)

Quote:Maybe in the future we'll get dating sims with My Chemical Romance blaring as the emosapien protagonist slumps his girly hair down in the rain after you fail the game when your girlfriend decides that dating you has helped her realize her homosexuality.
