Quote:Yes, it's hard to find a match these days, and it's not for lack of people with an online connection because when I first got Mario Kart, I could find a match pretty quickly. However, when you have no communication, well, it's just playing against smart bots. Nintendo misunderstood why we wanted online play. It wasn't JUST for more intelligent competition (though that is a part of it), it was for playing with PEOPLE.
Yup, exactly. As I have said many times -- Nintendo does not in any way understand online gaming, and doesn't care about trying to understand it. Just reading that article... the idea that when asked an online gaming service would say "Please don't hack, it's not nice" but NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT is absolutely, utterly insane and inconscionable. As he says MAYBE they will do a better job with Wii online, since the updating system is better, but does anyone really expect that? I don't. Why should Nintendo care if their games are hacked to oblivion and no one plays because of hacks and utter lack of communication with anyone? It's not like they care at all about online gaming anyway...
Quote:Well said, though I agree it doesn't need to be quite XBox Live level. Battle.net is enough for me. I don't need ALL my games interlinked, but it would be nice if at least all the games from any single company were (all Nintendo's games for example).
Well, if they all used Nintendo's service, and designed it like BNet, they would all be linked... in BNet you can see anyone online in any BNet game, etc. Same for every other online gaming network I know of other than Nintendo's. (server-brower-based FPS ones don't count -- those don't have a central server system, just a system that lists all the available player-run servers you can join.)
