Well said, though I agree it doesn't need to be quite XBox Live level. Battle.net is enough for me. I don't need ALL my games interlinked, but it would be nice if at least all the games from any single company were (all Nintendo's games for example).
Yes, it's hard to find a match these days, and it's not for lack of people with an online connection because when I first got Mario Kart, I could find a match pretty quickly. However, when you have no communication, well, it's just playing against smart bots. Nintendo misunderstood why we wanted online play. It wasn't JUST for more intelligent competition (though that is a part of it), it was for playing with PEOPLE.
