Well your fingers can be on all the buttons. The 360 controller is actually pretty comfortable placing 4 fingers on all shoulder buttons. Works fine for me anyway. Besides, it can work better to have a finger dedicated to each button than for your thumb to have solitary control over 6 buttons and a control stick. Some games need 4 shoulder buttons due to the thumbs being too busy controlling analog sticks to take the time to press other buttons.
