Anyway, as the Daily Show put it, that was a VERY dissappointing destruction of symbols of oppression going on there! I mean, they came out strong, a guy who is clearly dressed for taking down a statue comes and sledges the base, then boom, he just gives it to some weakling? You can almost HEAR the "eh" with each strike! Then, they give up on that and use a friggin' ROPE? We are talking about a 2 ton statue on a 5 ton base, and they are pulling on it like a window shade here! Then finally the US comes along with a little preperation Tank, and at last, the statue can go down... slowly...stops right at the heel. Tenacious little dictator isn't he?
And what's with the guy hitting the picture of Saddam with his SHOE? Very uninspiring. When it comes to paper representations of repression, you burn them! Yes, it's been done before and not very original, but it's a classic and always does the job of starting a good vibe.
Really, Berlin Wall was a MUCH more lively and better executed tear down.
