Looking into it a bit more, it makes perfect sense. Really, the real issue is the silly nature of the alliances they have drawn up that defies most of the logic of the story they had been developing in the Warcraft series...
As in, what they did was create Blood Elf Paladins and Draenei Shamans. Both classes make perfect sense for the races, more sense than they would have the other way around... the Draenei are from the Orcs' planet, Shamans make sense... and the Blood Elves were the High Elves. Sure, they have turned to evil to keep up their magic habit, but they'd probably rather tell themselves that they are still good, so... Paladins. Honestly, Blood Elf Shamans would be weirder...
What doesn't make sense as I have said repeatedly before is the stupid way they have put together these alliances. They're so obviously made just for side equality and simplicity and not for actually following the Warcraft plot that it's somewhat annoying... the plot is just an excuse for them to do their next thing, not the other way around like it seemed in the RTSes.
