Eeew... ya know, I think I do want it...

It better have better songs than "Donkey Konga". Seriously, what were they thinking with that offering? Okay, I jump to conclusions, but essentially the demo of that game I played had the largelly inoffensive collection of the same music kid's shows draw from. You know, the kind of music the old people making those shows want to secretly get kids to like?

Since it's Konami, it'll likely have a single step above that, weird Japanese pop music.

It's official, Nintendo at this point is basically whoring out Mario & co. That's a business term there.

Yeah I saw this last night, great stuff. If I were to buy a DDR game I wouldn't buy a Mario one though, since it's sure to have at least a few Pokemon tracks.

It makes... whoever that third party is... look smart for deciding to release a dance mat for the Cube... :) I mean, there was going to be one other dance game, but whatever that game is is pretty much irrelevant compared to something like 'Mario DDR'. I won't get it, but it'll probably be a solid dance game... and yes a Pokemon song is probably pretty much a given.

Look frightening. Like with Donkey Konga, I'm probably not going to touch it with a 50' pole.

Of course you wouldn't touch it with a 50' pole. You couldn't even lift the thing to do it, and besides that I can't think of a reason you would want to. The real question is if you want to play it.

Edit: Upon further contemplation I realize he didn't mention actually lifting the pole from one and and touching it with the opposite end. It would be much easier to simply touch it with the same end he lifted it with, however I don't see the point of that either. I was thinking like, maybe he was saying that as in he wouldn't like to play the game, you know, some odd kind of insult, but if the only way to do it would be to be right by it anyway the point of it being 50 feet long is kinda negated, which begs the question, what the heck are you talking about?

Are you kidding me?! Donkey Konga was awesome! Plus you can use the bongos to play the upcoming Jungle Beat, which is gonna rock you house.

My friend got Konga during that 3-for-2 TRU sale back in October (where I got Paper Mario 2 and GTA SA for super cheap), and it's a fun game, even though most of the songs I heard were really annoying. And the only decent songs that I saw weren't even performed by their original artists (like the one Queen song I saw). Ugh. I think I'd rather get Taiko Drum Master.

Really. Now, considering that demo had nothing but old American garbage, I have to wonder what the Japanese version had...

ok, i'm gonna say that i HATE, PASSIONATELY HATE blink 182 but i got the biggest kick playing the congas to 'small things' on the Donkey Konga demo...

you know what that means? DONKEY KONGA FUCKING ROXORS!

it's not about what songs you get to play, but how much fun the songs they have are to play. if i had $50 donkey konga would be the first game i pick up after metroid prime 2.

I'd buy Konga if it actually had music that you would use congos to play. Like Brazilian music, Cuban music, some Jazz, etc. But the Pokemon theme and Britney Spears? Oy.

Donkey Konga is awesome. The American version has tons of awesome songs on it, only a few are krap. We Will Rock You is performed by Queen, and all the other songs are performed by the original artists... so I dont know what you're all smoking.

There's Whip It (Devo), Swing Swing Swing!, Apollo Four Forty, The Temptations, lots of 50's and 60's stuff, an original score for The Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda Themes, U2 songs, some classical music like Hungarian Dance #5 and a lot of 80's stuff too, I mean the game has a ton of awesome songs. Plus it has mini games that aren't music related like whack-a-mole. It's an extremely solid title and well worth the 50 bucks for the game and congas.

Oh, and DDR with Mario is something I will have to try first because I cant stand Dance Dance Revolution in the arcade.

I admit that I didn't play Konga for very long, but the random songs that I chose were Pokemon songs and one Queen song not sung by Queen.

No, I played the full version at a friend's house. How many Queen songs are in the game? If it's just one then it definitely wasn't sung by Freddy Mercury. Queen's one of my favorite bands of all time so I wouldn't get that wrong.

The Japanese already have like three Donkey Konga games... two anyway. As for the songs, I just wasn't very interested in most of the songs in the American version... I'd honestly rather have the Japanese one (which has a bunch of theme songs and jpop and stuff) if I was to get Donkey Konga... but me getting Donkey Konga is a very, very remote possibility. :)

Ok I just went over to my friend's house to play some FSA, and I checked out Konga for a second and can confirm that the Queen song is not done by Queen. It's like what they do with karaoke stuff.

Which Queen song are you talking about, OB1?

I know We Will Rock You is performed by Queen because it's the same track off the CD I have...

    Track list for Donkey Konga:

-- Donkey Konga Exclusive songs --

    "Diddy's Ditties"

    "Bingo"

    "Campfire Medley"

    -- From TV shows --

    "Pokemon Theme"

    "Kirby: Right Back At Ya"

-- Assorted Tracks written and performed by original artists --

"We Will Rock You" - by Queen

"Like Wow" - by Leslie Carter

"Wild Thang" - by The Troggs

"I Think I Love You" - by David Cassidy

"Louie Louie" - by The Kingsmen

"The Loco-Motion" - by Little Eva

"Shining Star" - by Earth, Wind And Fire

"All The Small Things" - by Blink 182

"Rock This Town" - by The Stray Cats

"You Can't Hurry Love" - by The Supremes

"Right Here, Right Now" - by Jesus Jones

"Dancing In The Street" - by Martha and the Vandellas

"Rock Lobster" - by The B-52's

"Stupid Cupid" - by Patsy Cline

"The Impression That I Get" - by The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones

"What I Like About You" - by The Romantics

    "Whip It" - by Devo

"Busy Child" - by The Crystal Method

"Para Los Rumberos" - by Carlos Santana

"Oye Como Va!" - by Carlos Santana

"On The Road Again" - by Willie Nelson

    -- Classical --

"Hungarian Dance No.5" (In Gm) - by
    Johannes Brahms

"Turkish March" - by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

    -- From video games --

    "DK Rap"

    "Legend Of Zelda Theme"

    "Mario Brothers Theme"

    "Donkey Konga Theme"

    and:

"Sing, Sing, Sing (With A Swing)" - by Louis Prima

Because it doesn't fit any other catagory. :) It's also insane on the hardest difficulty.

So now, these are all the songs Queen ever performed:

'39 Words and music by Brian May
A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling Music by Roger Taylor
A Human Body Words and music by Roger Taylor
A Kind Of Magic Words and music by Roger Taylor
A Nation Of Haircuts Words and music by Roger Taylor
A Winter's Tale Words and music by Queen (Freddie)
Abandon Fire Words and music by Roger Taylor and David Richards
Action This Day Words and music by Roger Taylor

All Dead All Dead Words and music by Brian May
All God's People Words and music by Queen (Freddie) and Mike Moran
All The Way From Memphis Words and music by Ian Hunter
Another One Bites The Dust Words and music by John Deacon
Another World Words and music by Brian May

I thought I had seen in some review that some of the songs were not sung by the actual artists... but Lazy, even if you're right you're wrong because OB1 says so (and we all know that he's always right!).

    Go away, troll.

Lazy, it was We Will Rock You that I listened to, and it is definitely not sung by Freddy Mercury. Queen is one of my favorite bands of all time and I listen to their stuff on a regular basis. I know what they sound like. If you don't believe me, play the track in Konga and your CD at the same time. If you can't tell the difference then you need to get your hearing checked.

    BOOYAH.

    From gamespy's review:

"None of the licensed songs are performed by the original artist, but in most cases, it's a pretty good representation."

    And gamespots's review:

it's worth noting that none of these songs are actually performed by the original artists, but rather were recorded by decent cover artists.

I fucking know my Freddy Mercury, okay? So I'm afraid it was you who was mistaken, lazy.

Freddy Mercury didn't sing or write We Will Rock You.

I cant believe they're cover artists... that's so weird. They sound exactly like real thing. My CD is a compilation of my favorite Queen songs I burned off of MP3, so I guess the MP3's I have are from the same cover artist.

But wait, no... On the Road Again sounds exactly like Willie Nelson as does Rock Lobster and the B52's in fact they all sound right. This requires more research.

Brian May wrote the song, and Mercury performed it. Where are you getting all of your false information from?

All I know is that the Queen song is not performed by Queen.

Queen performed We Will Rock You, so yes Freddy Mercury is in Queen. But the lyrics and music were written by Brian May.

And doesn't it seem odd to you that some, if not most of the songs sound exactly like the original? Willie Nelson has a very distinct voice and I swear that's him singing in Donkey Konga.

You just said that Mercury did not sing that song. The song was performed by the entire band, but Mercury did the lead vocals, so he sung it. :)

    That's what I just said.

Well you also thought that was Freddy Mercury singing when it really didn't sound like him. ;) I'll check out the Willie Nelson song (I like him, too) to see if it's him.

But the Queen song still sounds like Queen to me as well.

It doesn't make alot of sense to me that Namco would go out of their way to find a band that performs famous songs and have vocalists that sound exactly like them. That's more than a cover band, that's someone blatently stealing their work. Usually a cover song will have most of the original song in it, but still original to the band that's performing it, an example would be Madonna's cover for American Pie, etc.

That just shows that you don't have a good ear for music then. ;)

Many music games don't use the original songs, and I'm really not sure why that is. Perhaps it's cheaper that way (maybe it's cheaper to license a song and then have some no-name band perform it than to use the actual original song), or perhaps they need to make the songs fit the gameplay better. I dunno, I'm just throwing out ideas here. Whatever the case is, there is a reason.
