It's official: the reviewers at Famitsu are INSANE!

Metroid Prime was reviewed by Japanese magazine Famitsu Weekly. Metroid was always more popular in the US then in Nintendo’s homeland, leaving worries as to how the region would take to the game. A score of 33/40 (three 8s and one 9) gave the title a gold award.

I give up. The world has come to an end.

Yeah I know it's still a good score, but come on... they gave REmake a higher score.

Dude, that's a terrible score for Metroid Prime. They give 8's to just aboout everything, and the crappy RE2 and RE3 GC ports even got some 8's.

I think they carbon copied the reviews of the original RE2 and RE3. Wasn't it you who got all upset that reviews for games went down because after all, quality doesn't drop with age? Aren't you glad they kept the old score?

As far as the score for MP, as I've said before, I don't think anyone should ever EVER use some stranger's opinion on quality to decide if they should play a game, or watch a movie, or whatnot. The job of the critic is the most useless job on Earth. Really, what qualifications are there? There are no "better judgers" of quality than other people, and those who claim they are better equipped to decide quality than others are just defending whatever school they went to to learn that "skill".

Good score. Particularly considering that Japanese folk have a tendency to dislike First Person games.

Some deserving games don't get the scores they deserve. As a huge Xeno and Silent Hill fan, I know that all too well.

And what's more, I think Metroid does deserve better than that.

REremake deserves the great scores it got (much better than Prime imo). That game destroyed every single RE before it and set a standard for how games should look and be made. It pisses me off that many people don't give it at much credit as it is due. Prime is great stuff too and I don't get these scores. Im curious as to why these scores were given.

They didn't just reuse those scores. They reviewed the games for what they are: crappy and expensive ports of old PSX games. And I never said that about old games. Hey a good game is a good game, but expensive, plain ports should be condemned.

What on earth are you talking about? It was RE1 with better graphics. Same crap controls, same crap puzzles. Sometimes you worry me, MgL.

samne crap controls, and same crap puzzles...but one hell of a game. and it wasn't exactly the same. things were moved around, areas added, characters added, puzzles added. it was a blast. a really fun game, and really scarey (it doesn't help that i have an illogical fear of zombies). anyway, was REmake better than MP? hell no. at least not in my opinion. but is it good? yes, very much so. if i were to rate the games, in my opinion i'd give MP a 9.8 and i'd give REmake a 9.0. yeah, i think that's what i'd give them.

I would hardly call a fear of zombies illogical. Now, a fear of spiders sure, they aren't out to eat you. Fear of zombies? I'm almost certain their goal is to eat every last living human there is! (There's two types, the brain eaters, and the any ol' flesh will do eaters, but both ONLY eat living tissue for some weird reason.)

What in the hell are YOU talking about OB1? The game just didn't have better "graphics", it also had better character and monster animation. The animation is what blew me away with the game. It didn't feel like a videogame when I was playing it. When you package incredible graphics, beyond awesome animations and great gameplay there can not be anything better. I owned RE on the PS and it felt real robotic. REmake felt like something new. The game also has extra shit btw. That added storyline with the freak girl that chases you around was not in the original game.

I can' believe you disagree with me about this game. Fine disagree with me on everything else but this was an incredible game.

MP certaintly deserved better than that, but considering the way the Japanese feel about FPS games that is pretty good.

Hey I like the game, but it's not as ground-breaking as you make it out to be. Yes the graphics are nice, but other than that it's basically the same old RE that we've been playing for years now.
I'm also well aware of all of the extra stuff that they put in the game, but it's still the same basic game. It plays exactly as it did before only now it's just a lot prettier. They didn't even give us analogue controls.
