Better name than F-Zero GC that's for sure... but WOW, is that box art terrible!
6th May 2003, 1:20 PM
F-Zero has the lamest character art out of any Nintendo game I think of, and they go ahead and use that as the cover. Idiots.
6th May 2003, 1:31 PM
That'll sure help sell the game to people who don't know the series...
6th May 2003, 1:37 PM
I could have been worse. They could have put EAD Man on the box art!!

Sometimes you get the scorpion.

I love that character art because it's so over the top comic book hero style :D.
The cover however should be showing just cars on crazy tracks though.

9th May 2003, 4:52 PM
No it isn't. It's super-cheesy Thunderbirds knock-off crap.
9th May 2003, 5:00 PM
Thunderbirds? Looks like cheesy American heros and some speed racer stuff. I LOVE it! Their stories are also super cheesy stuff! It's hilarious!

9th May 2003, 5:01 PM
But F-Zero is not supposed to be funny.
9th May 2003, 5:31 PM
The character art is... or I sure hope so because otherwise its awful...
All I know is, Pico's there so who cares about the rest of them? :)
9th May 2003, 5:39 PM
Yeesh, have a sense of humor about it. Obviously EAD, home of insanity, has a bit of a sense of humor. It's like a half serious half parody tone throughout the whole thing. It's serious at first glance, then it just goes completely over the top on everything. I mean, an evil general beant on universal conquest chooses to start out his rule with a RACE? Come on! Can't you see the comedy in that? It's not like straight out comedy, it's more of a "how hilariously serious is this?" kinda thing. Just enjoy it man.

Its no better than the standard fighting game story of domination by winning a fighting tournament...
9th May 2003, 5:45 PM
Yeah :D! Fighting games have ridiculous stereotypical character designs too. Instead of everyone being 50's super hero stereotypes, they are instead regional fighting style stereotypes. I mean, Ryo, Dahlim, E.Honda (Sumo is just for sports after all, you can't actually fight anyone in the real world with it), that boxer from America (forget the US translated name, but in Japan HE'S M.Bison). It's got this serious tone but it's so over the top and ridiculous that you just fall in love with how funny the seriousness is.

Some pretend to take themselves seriously... not most but some. I like the cartoony style used in F-Zero (X, anyway)... its nice. But that hideous Captain Falcon on the box... *shudders*
9th May 2003, 5:54 PM
Nothing in any of the F-Zero games hints at the characters being a big parody of crappy old sci-fi serials. And just look at that boxart!
9th May 2003, 6:22 PM
First you complain about the look, then you say you don't see the look. The look alone should indicate it's a big parody. Does it have to be spelled out to you? Can't you figure it out for yourself? Do they NEED to tell you Street Fighter's characters are designed to parody stereotypes? No they don't, because it's VERY obvious! Same thing here! Just enjoy it man!
I have nothing to say about the cover art.

9th May 2003, 6:44 PM
What, won't admit how bad it is?
9th May 2003, 7:38 PM
I don't recall ever actually defending the box itself.

DJ, it's only wishful thinking on your part to think that it's all a big parody. Nothing in the game suggests that's it's a parody of any sort.
9th May 2003, 11:28 PM
Okay I'll play your game you rogue! Assuming this amazingly hilarious parody isn't intentional, oh well. It is in my mind. As far as I'm concerned, that's what it means now. Why should I care what they INTENDED? It means to me what I WANT it to mean. (Sheesh, the fact that it is so hilarious should be enough of a hint. It really does have to be spelled out for you... The sheer intensity and overthetoppyness of both the outfits and the story should be all you need to know it's got to be for a comedic drama effect, just like Street Fighter.)

A lot of stuff we find funny is taken quite seriously by the Japanese.
9th May 2003, 11:33 PM
I don't think its ALL intentional comedy, no... in X its just the low resolution of the art. Sure there's some humor (EAD guy), but the game characters supposed to be charicatures and funny? I'm not so sure. Its probably just more like 'typical futuristic game characters' than 'humor characters'... sure seems that way to me.
9th May 2003, 11:35 PM
Yes.
9th May 2003, 11:36 PM
...why does Captain Falcon have little metal plates where his nipples are...?

10th May 2003, 12:16 AM
I think we already said how stupid Captain Falcon looks... :)
10th May 2003, 1:12 AM
Yeah but I didn't notice those plated nipples before!
10th May 2003, 1:17 AM
But they're so obvious!
10th May 2003, 7:31 AM
I didn't notice before, either, until I made that post... what did they think, that showing a guy's nipples is gratuitously sexual?
10th May 2003, 10:35 AM
I didn't analyze the box, ABF. I took one quick glance and decided to never look at it again.
10th May 2003, 11:43 AM
That is not the first time we've seen Captain Falcon looking that way.
10th May 2003, 12:53 PM
He has metallic nipples in SSB: M, but they aren't that big. They were just little stumps, like where the point of his nipple should be, but these cover the entire thing. Weird.
10th May 2003, 6:32 PM
I just never paid any attention to his nipples, ABF. Guess I just don't look out for these things as much as you do.
10th May 2003, 9:08 PM
 <-- I hate whoever created this smilie! I see it on so many fricken ads! Argh! *kills people*
10th May 2003, 9:14 PM
What ads?
10th May 2003, 9:25 PM
Ads in Kazaa, freeopendiary.com, etc. One was an ad that TALKED and said, "OMG CLICK THE RIGHT CHARACTER WHO HAD PUBIC LICE IN MONSTERS INC AND WIN A FREE DVD!"
10th May 2003, 10:06 PM
I've never seen any of those ads... and I use Kazaalite...
10th May 2003, 11:17 PM
Pico: Holy Jesus, they look like pizza cutters!
Capt. Falcon: Vroom! I huf bug nupples! *whooosh!* Samuari Goroh: UHUAHA !!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Dr. Stewart: The square root of Capt. Falcon's nipples are equally determined by the opposing factors of reverberation within inherent gene code from which.... Good Lord i'm so gay. :S And look at my car! What am I?! Jewish?? Oy with the designing with the hurting and the COCK pits froinLAVEN EAD MAN: *eats 4 continents* WAF-FULLS, IT'S GOD DAMN GENIUS. I SWALLOWED MY TONGUE AGAIN. Maybe Nintendo's art department is trying to subtely convey the message to Nintendo execs that the art department needs more space heaters? Oh well, atleast we can choose who we play as. And I for one am playing as Capt. Falcon, regardless of his nipple condition.
11th May 2003, 11:34 AM
I use Kazaa lite now, too, but some months back I used Kazaa.
11th May 2003, 11:35 AM
I use Kazaa lite now, too, but some months back I used Kazaa. It's also in a lot of pop-up ads for websites.

Impressions from ign:
Quote:May 14, 2003 - When it first debuted on the Super NES back in 1991, Nintendo's futuristic F-Zero hovercraft racer was focused on one thing: blistering speed. It employed a creative sprite-scaling technology to give racing fans a rush of adrenaline like no other videogame before it, and Nintendo gamers immediately fell in love. Since then, the franchise has shown up on every Nintendo system thereafter, including the fully 3D-rendered F-Zero X on the N64. In it, our hovercraft thrills were expanded to new heights, with courses that twisted and climbed high into the skies to roller-coaster proportions. Despite being just as fast -- if not faster -- than any other F-Zero game in the series, the X edition was often criticized for being graphically plain and devoid of futuristic eye candy. Slap a G on that X, and get ready for all of that to change.

12th June 2003, 10:25 AM
Still doesn't look too good, but it sure as hell is a billion times better than that giant steel nipples boxart.
12th June 2003, 3:11 PM
