What the hell is this?  Who would want this?

... And it's not even a game, it's just a video of some of the games' cutscenes running on a GBA?  Indeed, who in the world would want that?  I may have occasionally ordered something from Limited Run (and I do mean occasionally, I only have a few things from them), but THAT?  That's just ridiculous.  No.  I'm not buying it and nobody else should either.

Of course, I know that in the last few years FMV games kind of came back into fashion, at least with a certain group of people.  I am definitely NOT one of those people, I think just as little of the genre now as I always did.   So this isn't my kind of thing regardless.  But... even if it's an absolutely terrible game, and I do think that Night Trap is abysmal, at least it's a GAME, you know?  This is just a movie iof its cutscenes!  Do not buy it.

And keep in mind the actual quality of GBA video carts.  If you've never watched them, the compression makes both audio and video abysmal.  Even if the Sega CD version of the game was already compressed with low color depth, this is bound to be far worse.  I honestly feel like this is a joke of a product.  And here's the other thing, the "gameplay" of an FMV game is entirely doable on that console, it's just that they totally ran out of space stuffing that low quality video in there.

As a historical footnote, Nighttrap is interesting.  It's a part of the history of video game worrywarts and the creation of ratings boards.  It's just not a very fun... game.  There's some actual good "FMV games" out there.  Sierra made some pretty good "FMV Adventure games" for example in the mid 90's.  There's a few interesting arcade on-rails shooters that use FMVs as the backdrop.  But, the average one is exactly the garbage people associate with the genre.  There's a handful of Sega CD 32X games that use both addons, but every one of them is an FMV game of some stripe or another.  I just couldn't find a single way to discern one as even slightly more worth it than the rest, so I don't have any games that use both addons in my case.

There is another video format that may just be worse:

At least the Gameboy Advance was also a great game machine and it's video playback could, and mostly was, just ignored by the public.  These "Video Now" things were really only meant for the video playback, sucked at it, and had nothing else to redeem them.  Unless you went with the XP edition...  Anyone... um... want to review some Video Now XP games?

    "This product is sold out"

The answer is people obsessed with ticking off their "collection", as they allowed it to be defined by Limited Run.  I'm sad now.
