    Well, anyway, here's the sad truth. Humans can't digest leaves. Like, at all. Well, more accurately, we can't digest cellulose. Some plants, like lettuce, have been bred specifically to have far less cellulose and that's why we can eat them (and also why they are a lot flimsier than tree leaves). This is basically pointless.

    How odd... but even if the leaf isn't digestible, the batter surely is, so it's not TOTALLY useless. But you're right, I definitely think of deep-frying everything as an American thing... in the south particularly I guess, but we do have some of that up here at some fairs and such.
