So, I'm now on my third incarnation of eclipse, having used Helios, Indego, and Eclipse Classic on a multitude of both windows and Linux machines. And in every incarnation I click check for updates and the process takes half a day. Right now I just clicked it in Indego and it's been checking for 4 hours now..

Seriously why haven't they fixed this yet? It's really annoying..
BTW, I'm loving these new android DEV tools! The new forms designer is freekin sweet!

I haven't used Eclipse since my college days but I remember it being a totally respectable IDE. Never ran into the update problem myself. My preferred IDE of that time (and what I still use now) is Microsoft Visual Studio. We're using version 2010 now at work and it's kind of shit, crashing too much and sucking down memory with bloated processes.

I think programming on my Android would be interesting but I never program for fun anymore. Still, I haven't gone completely casual as far as electronics go. I ultimately decided on Android over iOS for my phone because the latter seemed more limited, even if iOS's user interface and quality of apps is overall better. But I'd rather not deal with, say, Apple doing something stupid like renaming all my mp3 files (looking at you, iPod).

Visual Studio is still my IDE of choice as well but unfortunately there are still allot of mobile platforms including Android, IOS, and Blackberry where eclipse is your only choice.
