Also, apparently Windows 8 will have Xbox Live. Yeah, Windows Live is dead now or something, it's titled Xbox Live on the PC too now apparently...

They did. They didn't, however, like Windows Live.

The key is persistence. XBox Live on Windows needs to have an external client that sticks around when the game ends. Once you do that, the rest of the features can be implemented.

I think he already has, a few years ago.

Well as I've said the "desktop" needs to die anyway. This works better in practice than you think. Further, the desktop is still there as an alternative interface if you can't move on to the mobile future you ludite.

If you read the article I linked at the top, etoven, apparently Windows 8 will have two different desktops, one of them that tablet-style desktop based on Windows Phone stuff, and the other one a more traditional desktop. So you won't be required to use the tablet-style desktop. I'm not sure what I think of the change, for a desktop it seems somewhat pointless (hopefully the standard desktop is good...), and as for tablets, well, Windows tablets aren't too popular now for sure. Who knows if this will change that.

One thing I am excited about is windows 8 supporting SOC (System on a chip).. I saw a video earlier of a windows 8 PC running on a motherboard the size of phone.. Neat! I also saw powerpoint and windows 8 running on a ARM processor thanks to SOS support. And in the DEMO the person had baught a regular HP printer from walmart and recompiled the printer driver for the ARM chip and printed right from his pocket sized powerpoint! "Excuse me while I shoot some geek juce out my weenier in the direction of Microsoft.." That means in the next few years you will be able to install windows on your microwave, your DVD player, your MP3 player! In theory...

It's a little scary, this sets the stage for windows to be the next java, and run everything.. Now there's a scary thought..

It's so friendly, but not friendly enough! What's with all those capital letters and punctuation? Don't MS know that those are BANISHED from modern major corporations now?

OK, for all the layman out here let me explain how serious a error that is you posted. HAL is the middle man between the os and hardware like your hard drive. If any program tries to talk to hardware with out going threw hal, its Hals job to send the program streight to hell. Ie purge the code from memory. It is the first line of defence for windows security, because if a program could directly talk to the hardware with out approval from the security layers like kerberious or the file system then that's basically a open door policy to your machine! With out Hal windows has no security, its basically windows 95.

So naturally if Hal fails windows has no choice but to shut your computer down to protect the user. I didn't think I would ever see a computer as fucked up as the one at work today, so congrates Microsoft you managed to fuck up the most vital system in the whole Os!

    WOW!

And that's why it's called a developer's preview and not the final product.

Have you been reading about Windows Server 8? There's some amazing stuff in there.

One important question: Will they be putting in those creepy man-doll wallpapers like they did in Windows 7? Bleck, those creepy things give me the jibblies... Who drew those? That's not art, that's a peppermint nightmare.

    <img src="http://www.windows7news.com/wp-content/gallery/windows-7-release-candidate-wallpapers/3472211228_b464c81586_o.jpg" width="800" height="500">

Jibbliejibbliejibbliejibblie.... I call that one "real life Tingle".

This one's worse, invoking images of the original PS3 commercial...

    Seriously, these are disturbing...

I really am sick of this planned obsolesce crap, Windows 7 is fine as it is and still fairly new hopefully Windows 8 will be a big flop like vista and 7 will get an extended life like XP.

MS needs to find a new source of revenue, In my opinion a OS should last 7-8 years before they release the next one,

You can still just KEEP Windows 7. No one's disabling it.

The irony is that Vista came along five and a half years after XP, which had the longest run of any Windows OS.

It could be worse. Canonical releases new versions of the Ubuntu OS every six months.

You just referred to a Linux system like a real pro..
I think deep down inside there was a baby super nerd like me just waiting to be nurtured and loved.. And now I've met him!

I shall call him Ryloex king of Gandor.. he's a level 243 mage with plus 900 to his intelligence and agility. Ryloex can summon demons from books and has mastery over all that is written and will be written. Ryloex also has a level 24 creature that follows him around, it is made out of 243,000 lines of text where Rowland fucked a horse in the Dark Tower series but Stephen King took out because he decided to make a cameo in his own story instead.

Yea, Canonical updates their shit so much it's almost annoying.. If you count all the other Linux updates besides the main OS, it's almost something like 3 times a day...

It was a complement jack ass. I'm just saying under my careful tutelage you have joined the elite group, that masterbates to core I5 chips and SOS systems.

You should be happy, now your better than everybody else.... Smarter, faster... Able to turn micowaves into soft core porn delivery machines..

The sky's the limit now! Nerds are better than everyone else, it's true. You'll be wiping your ass with 50 dollar bills (which come from your StarTrek replicator), and then taking those shit stained bills and investing it in a interest growing roth IRA which will be worth billions in the future when everyone else will have died from starvation..

On that day, I can say.. I knew that man! And I recommended a Linux distro to that man.. I WAS THERE!!

Etoven, it's a GOOD thing that MS is releasing their OSes faster now. XP was around for a stupid long time, long after it's outdated systems were already dragging down progress.

    It just happens.

In my defense, I only knew those terms. I have no idea, in the slightest, what any of them mean or do. It just gave me that temporary feeling of a basement-dwelling slug who wears penguin shirts, curses Bill Gates, and spends his life in active pursuit of never getting laid.
