... Really, the idea that Bush is really gone now is amazing... it'll take a while to fully sink in, I think. He's gone... the worst president in at least the last 30 years, and maybe ever, is finally gone. It seemed like this day would never come... I don't know what to say, but that it's an amazing, amazing feeling. Wow... Bush is gone.

Well, let's be clear here. Bush didn't... intern the Japanese or exile the native Americans to a blasted land of worthlessness (my home state, yay!). So, I can't say he's the worst... <i>ever</i>.

If you think that was a compliment to him, well you should be made more familiar with the comedy stylings of Mark Twain. Sarcasms all the way down, hard to get across in the written word as it is.

Oh, I'm sure we'll find something... things Obama does we dislike, his lack of action on important issues, etc.

For instance, is he going to prosecute the many war criminals in the Bush Administration? Signs right now point towards "likely not", and that is both condoning torture and against everything America should stand for... they MUST be prosecuted if we want to say "That Was Wrong". Simply saying "you were wrong, bad" and doing nothing else is absolutely unacceptable and it's pretty horrible that they may not act. Even if they can't get convictions, the effort alone would make it worth it.

There are worse things than that war, like whoever you blame Vietnam on, but it's pretty bad... and the entire thing had absolutely no reason for happening beyond people in the administration's stupidity, arrogance, and uncaring.

I think you're forgetting that there was only one foreign terrorist attack on U.S. soil during Bush's time in office. That averages out to less than one per term. So let's try to not blindly take a glass-half-empty approach to everything Bush related. It's irrational.

And from what I understand, that mistreatment has continued to the present. Canada's not much better - First Nations are relegated three steps below the bottom rung of society in this country, and vicious racism towards aboriginals occurs all across this fine land of mine, from coast to coast to coast.

That may be true, but plenty of presidents before the current one had a nice standing record of 0 foreign terrorist attacks. My point isn't that Bush CAUSED 9/11, it's rather me saying there's no reason to believe anything Bush did prevented any terrorist attacks. They're pretty danged rare.

I don't have any special attachment to Obama, any Democrat would be great. It was the best day of the decade because Bush was gone and a Democrat replaced him.

... It'd still have been a pretty great day even if McCain had won, simply for getting rid of one of our worst presidents ever, but it's much better with a Democrat replacing him instead. :)

Good point ASM, terrorism in the US comes much more frequently from nutcases, disturbed people, and radical anti-government zealots (like Timothy McVeigh and all) than it does from foreign enemies of America. They're actually already here, while it takes a lot of effort for Al Quaida to pull something off in the US...

McCain? Seriously? I saw that as a disaster in the making, and there were a number of bad democrat choices as well. Obama in particular isn't perfect. An analogy I read online is that perfection would be the movie "Inherit the Wind", Obama is more like "Ghostbusters". To finish the analogy, Bush is "Plan 9 From Outer Space", and Ghostbusters is a massive improvement. However, it is far from the ideal. The most we can say is it's the right track.

McCain would have merely continued Bush's policies. There's little doubt of that, because McCain's positions at the end of the campaign made that very clear. He may have kept saying he's a maverick and "not Bush", but the days when that was actually true died when he started, one by one, selling out his actual positions and taking up the Bush doctrine. Palin is an uneducated moron, and that is more than enough reason to reject her outright. I don't care how well intentioned someone is, if they run around making uninformed decisions, it's no different than flailing around in the wind hoping something good happens randomly. Evil I can tolerate, but stupidity... oooohhh... *rambles like Farnsworth*

Of course McCain would have been bad. I just find it hard to imagine that he'd be worse than Bush, and there was a possibility he could even be slightly better... so yes, it would have been a great day, if just to see off Dick Cheney. But of course it's infinitely better with a person who's actually right about things going in instead. :)

I'm willing to give our new Messiah a chance.

But I would also dearly love for this collective worldwide Obama fellatio to stop as soon as possible. The man has done absolutely nothing yet to deserve it. Being the first (technically) black man elected president serves as a testament to our nation more than to anything Obama himself said or did. He was elected because America currently values expectation over experience. And this is not to say that Obama is destined to fail. I don't think he will, and I hope he won't. But he has sold a ton of hope to Americans on credit, and he has practically zero experience in an executive position. Can he possibly repay? Can a man elected because of his personal popularity make unpopular choices when the need arises?

I sure hope he can.

Whatever, Ghostbusters is a perfect movie.

You say that almost like you dont know what Gremlins is. I think the key to a perfect movie is that the hero gets laid (or is inferred to) and someone kills an elderly woman. Aliens fits in this idealism because its implied that the elderly woman are killed and the Queen/Power Loader gangbang climax makes up for the lack of actual humping. (I can sacrifice and reach with Independence Day since everyone understands the opening scenes where Smith is urinating as the 'post-sex-piss' and the First Lady being our elderly victim, though a young one) This works in lesser forms too since Harry and the Hendersons 'frightens' old ladies "to death" (sex acts omitted as spoilers) as well as choice scenes from Howard the Duck or Earth Girls are Easy. So the third factor would be the inclusion of a monster and/or alien. Not to mention the potency of the cast so while there's no denying Ms. Weaver or a young Jim Carry-Hairy, a strong cast simply creates a better film and that brings me to my point: Mars Attacks barely missed the 'best movie' while any film from the Toxic Avenger series (or Evil Dead, obviously) clearly defeats its attempts and it's only fair that all 3 films (in their essence) are the Triforce of film perfection since they contain everything that is cool, including ghosts and occasionally Rick Moranis (ret.).
