I certainly admit that I'm not very good at understanding economic issues, but even so, I don't quite see how doing nothing will help... "government is the problem, not the answer" is just something I completely disagree with. Government is sometimes a problem, but not always. And there doesn't seem to be much of an alternative to doing this... things are going to be really bad either way, but it'll be even worse without this deal. The record 777-plus (the number just keeps going up...) point DOW loss (and even worse losses in credit markets, evidently) is a sign of that.

Hopefully the bill will eventually pass, I think... it is an incredibly large amount of money at stake, but what alternative do we have?

Is it a coincidence that stock crashes always seem to happen under the republicans? Why do we foreigners care so much of the U.S? Well my economy among others is married to yours, If you tank we all go down with you being that you are our biggest trading partner and our companies own capital into your economy.

The TSX (North America's third largest) dropped over 900 points earlier today, and closed down 840 points. I have no idea what these numbers mean, but what I do know is I hit 17 spreads on Saturday and went 6-2 yesterday and also hit a five-game parlay. I guess I'm trying to say that I'm bigger than the stock market.

Doing nothing won't help, but killing a clown is even worse.

What I'm saying is that doing "something" is not inherently good. It has to be a well thought out something. Otherwise it'll either be no different, but an expensive no different, or it'll make things work. Doing nothing is BETTER than those two options.

I fail to see how dishing out a massive amount of cash to the very idiots that got us into this will help things. There are better solutions. LET THEM BURN!

You can't just blame the failure of the bill on the Republicans since the Dems could have passed it easily if they all supported it. The bill as it was wasn't a great solution, and I am kind of happy this version didn't pass even though it hurt the stock market. This is really a bill they need to get right.

Two-thirds of Democrats supported it, while two-thirds of Republicans opposed it. The Democrats had never promised more than a majority; it was the Republican leadership who failed to live up to their end of the bargain.

That's the whole point, it's not just "them". Almost everybody now has money in the stock market -- mutual funds, retirement accounts, etc... letting the stock market and credit markets crash will greatly harm a LOT of American people. Doing something that might work will likely make things not quite as bad... or at least that is the hope. Of course it can't be said that "it will definitely work"... but it's got a lot better chance of working than any of the other (lack of) good ideas out there.

I mean, what do the revolting Republicans want? TAX CUTS for banks? What? So their plan is... take something that helped cause the problem, make it worse, and say that that's helping?

I think not!
