Right Nintendo, I knew there's no technical reason why the current version of the Wii couldn't play DVD movies, and here's the proof.

I know you'd have to pay the DVD consortium of calamatous intent an extra fee, but wrap up that fee in the price of some special wii-ware channel rather than the price of the system (the same as MS did with the "DVD playback set" for the original XBox) and that won't be a problem.
That said, I honestly don't care about DVD playback. All I'm saying is that Nintendo has no good reason to make a brand new version with a feature the other one technically already has.
