This is THE most over the top commercial ever made.

THE HAND OF GOD DUMPED YOU OUT AND EXPLODED YOUR CAR!

That about sums up the reaction to this thing.

I can't remember what tune that riff is lifted from and it's driving me nuts. Great ad though.

    - Hey you! You look like a real jerk!
    - Well, I am a corporate executive!
    - He stops exciting things from happening!

I love how the real world and the game world merge in to one using trippy psychedelics and ......a mph indicator.

Best commercial ever? The family falling from the sky in stiff doll-form is easily one of those moments where you reach an understanding that thank fucking GOD the 80's are gone.

Well... atleast the special effects anyway. Long live commercials with budgets!

Budget aside budget aside! That commercial was right up in yo GRILL, making DEMANDS and threatening you with VIOLENCE and FIERY DEATH if you don't comply with POLE POSITION.

Combine that with the cheesy post apocalyptic crash with them fused with their cars and that "skid marks on your SOUL" comment and you have everything that is over the top METAL, and then you have the premise of a typical uptight preppy family that doesn't really exist (as far as I can tell, never met any families like that myself) which is the ENEMY of all things PUNK and you have the most EXTREME thing ever. Yes, best (worst) commercial ever!

Here's a youtube link to the same commercial, so you can embed it if you wish. I'll leave that link up there since it has other terrible commercials.

    I'M READY!

You know, the more I think about the Pole Position commerical, the more irritates me. It's like the people who made it didn't even think about what they were saying in the commercial for more than ZERO seconds.

"Hey! You look like a real jerk!"

"Well, I am a corporate executive."

"He stops exciting things from happening!"

Now, it really should go without saying that if exciting things were happening all the time in the workplace, that not a lot of work would actually get done. Without work getting down we're talking about nation-wide production stoppages. And that, in turn, leads to socio-economic collapse on an unprecedented level. In other words, people aren't going to have the money to purchase luxury goods like videogames [i.e. Pole Position].

But wait! What if Atari, out of the goodness of their hearts, provided Pole Position for free?

    1. They don't have the production capacity to construct more units.
    2. They have no way to ship those units from one place to another.
    3. People probably have bigger concerns like SURVIVAL.

So, yeah, next time you think about bashing those "jerks" that "keep exciting things from happening", just remember that THOSE GUYS MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR PEOPLE TO PLAY YOUR SILLY LITTLE GAMES, YOU TWITS!!

    That was weird.

Besides, lots of sites do just give out their games for free. Apparently it works for some people. Not even sure why you went into the whole "free" thing.

What does a corporate executive ever actually DO though? I've heard stories of these guys being entirelly ignorant of the technical issues their engineers actually go through on a daily basis and don't realize just how stupid this or that decision actually is in relation to that. I say ALL higher ups need to have at least a functional level of technical knowledge on par with their subordinates.
