Well I have officially moved to Salem VA, to walmart #1309 and hopefully Ryan will be joining me soon.

I just wanted to let Ryan know what he was missing, as per my evaluation of my first day of work...

1. The electronics department is the size of my living room, so it took all but 5 minutes to straiten up (zone) when I came in at 2:00 PM.
   
2. The people of Salem BUT SHIT BACK WHERE IT GOIES!!!! Let me repeat... The PEOPLE OF SALEM PICK UP "LAND OF THE LOST" OFF THE SELF RELIZE ITS OVER PRICED AND PUT BACK WHERE IT GOES! HOLY CRAP JESUS!!! In other words the department stayed zoned all night!
   
3. Our directs are like 3 boxes a day! 1 of which goes up.
   
4. The people of Salem don't rob walmart #1309 blind.

8. We have people who put up night freat for us, there was a hole army of overnighters at least 4 or 5 who rolled up in the electronics deptment about 10:30, and put up out nightly crap while we sat on our asses and watched.
   
9. Finally, we are well staffed in environment, run by mangers who were raised with home town goodness who actually give a dam! IE not, [Deleted by walmart police], or [Deleted by walmart police], [Deleted by walmart police], or even [Deleted by walmart police]!
   

Of course where every good there is some bad...

1. There using the old tezons.
   
2. There using the old printers.
   
3. There basically starting fire with sticks.
   
4. Additionally, there is a whole new set of company policies for walmart #1309 which seemly don't seam so standardized as "company" policies.

They simply made up BS rules about the dress code put it in walmart stationary and posted them by the time clock for one thing.

Not that I'm complaining I would gladly adjust my hair style and clothing to continue to work there.

After having worked here for three months, I can say with complete confidence that numbers 5, 6, and 7 are complete lies. People out here are stupid and obnoxious and ignorant and personally hold me responsible for it.

It sucks less than Midlothian, but that's as much a statement of endorsement as it sounds.

And it pays to elaborate: I never liked Richmond because most of its inhabitants are unfriendly. It's much worse, here, I guess because this being more rural and more 'southern', people are less socially developed and lacking in intelligence.

I don't know if that's a real generalization or not, but the fact remains; Salem, Virginia is populated by a lot of assholes.

One instance is as such: My normal accent is that found in the northeast Pennsylvania area, sharp and harsh though not quite New York or Jersey. I have enough voice control and experience that I can use a convincing southern accent. I've found that some people are much less friendly when I speak normally than when I fake the southern thing, sometimes the very same people.

People here are much, much more openly racist. I've never heard the word 'nigger' used so openly and so freely in public as I have here. Ironically, the few black people that I have come into contact with here are considerably more friendly than those in Richmond.

I've also noticed, especially on the job, that people here seem much more inclined to argue, insult, and act generally rude towards me. Considering my job, a certain level of that is expected, but the frequency has been much greater here.

Wow, open racism? Where are you again? I'd expect that in Georgia from the stories I've heard (anecdote is the plural of data! :D), but wow... Certainly I haven't seen issues with that here. How "southern" an accent do you need to fake? Do they talk in the sort of drawl that drops half the words and mushes the rest into two syllables, like "Melpya?" for "May I help you?". Do you often find yourself having to ask them to repeat themselves or rephrase what they just said, much to their annoyance? Not quite boston eh? That's also an accent that seems to destroy whatever unfortunate word it comes across. Though, I will add that the "in your face" attitude that at least a few of those with that accent has always rubbed me the wrong way, as in very rude. The sort of thing where they ask a question in a very demanding tone and then start asking you why you haven't answered in the 5 milliseconds they actually gave you to speak.

Well for one thing, it isn't very "mobile" at all. It's just easier to load up on a massive mover than the standard house.

Really though the issue isn't the home so much as the circumstances that lead the average person to take up residence therein. Very rarely does anyone ever willingly domicile in such a place. The rest follows.

Poverty, occasional destitution, several wrecked cars in the yard, and, if you live in the South, a tornado magnet? :)

Magnet? Not so much. It's just that it is much more easily destroyed and there's nothing like the underside of some stairs or a basement to hide in. It isn't more likely to be hit by a tornado, it's just more vulnerable to it.

Nothing wrong with car parts scattered around, if you're a mechanic or are using that to make money. I can say what little I've seen of trailer parks I don't actually see car parts scattered around, just run down cars, which is to be expected. These people aren't upgrading to hybrid any time soon, because they CAN'T.
