Here we are, on the brink of a new console generation mere DAYS away...and we have let a precious and time-honored tradition fall to the wayside.

    That's right, we've not had a COUNTDOWN!

    Well, better late than never:

    3 days!!!!

People are already lined up in some places!

... probably for the PS3, but I'm sure someone somewhere is already in line for a Wii... :)

The seeming thousands of people buying PS3s for EBay: will demand outstrip supply and those hopes for $3000 per console be dashed?

After the PS2 feeding frenzy, I told myself I was gonna pre-order a bunch of PS3s, ebay them all, and become wealthy. I forgot about that until this morning. Crap.

I didn't even get a Wii pre-ordered, although truth is I didn't even think about getting one until the last couple weeks. I was still gonna buy Zelda at launch, because how could I not? It's Zelda. But it was gonna sit on my bookshelf as a glorious trophy until I had time to really give the game the focus it deserves. But now I've got Thanksgiving break and Christmas break coming up, and all of my other time devouring responsibilities die down until the middle of January, so...

My plan is to hit up Kmart early Sunday morning, because who buys a console at launch from Kmart? Nobody! They should have a bunch. I still remember the pain of camping outside Gamestop to pick up my year-long-preordered Cube just to watch multitudes wander into Kmart and walk out with a brand new Cube, informing the crowd of us waiting that there were plenty left...

KMart is where I bought my GameCube. There were close to 100 of us lined up in there, and I only waited from 11pm to midnight. Since there are no more 24-hour KMarts around me I'm going to be hitting up Meijer this time around. Even though they're open 24-hours they won't be selling the Wii until 8 am, so my sister and I are going to keep checking in until we see a bit of a line forming and then we'll wait it out.

Sunday morning I'm getting up bright and early to hit all the big chain stores. Game-only stores like EB or GameCrazy won't have any for sure, but big ones like Wal*Fart, K-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc, ought to have at leats one, I hope.

    If not, I can wait.

    I just don't want to :D.

I'm going to try and get a Wii at Walmart since they're having a midnight launch. I'm also going to get Zelda but I don't really want to play it until I have a better TV to enjoy it on. Zelda deserves 480p!

I saw people camping outside of a Super Target the other night. There was a picture of the PS3 above them. The store won't allow them to come inside to stay warm unless they buy somthing. There were some PS3 campers outside Walmart as well.

There's like a bajillion Wal-Marts all over Tulsa, and they are apparently EACH getting like 20 Wii systems. Also a few Targets.

You're buying one of those overpriced things? :shake:

Well, I wish you luck, not only with obtaining one, but one without system-launch defects. It'd be a damn shame if it broke.

Yeah, soime people around here have started camping out as well. Man, I can't imagine anything worse than camping out in front of a store for the <i>priveledge</i> of spending $600 on what is, lets be realistic, a status symbol. That's what the PS3 will be for the next month or so. People aren't buying it for the games, not entirely. They want to be that guy everyone envies who can say "I got a PS3, did YOU?".

You know it. Why do you think people aren't camping out for Wii's? They're not the hot system right now, and the die-hards who really want one at launch know that more than likely, with a little persistance and patience, they can find one. They will be the hot console this gen, so we hope, but the PS3 is the big-name ticket right now.

With as many systems as Nintendo intends to ship, I don't need to camp out.

Though you wouldn't know that to hear the Gamestop guys talking about it. They act like it's the end of the world and nothing can be done to save you from "not a Wii" except maybe a preorder at one of their fine electronical mechanisma emporium (& son's).

Some, yes. There truly are, however, some people who are out there because they genuinely want that system.

It's bizarre, I'll give you that, but my comments ring true for those people.

Yet, after making that post, I did realize the whole eBay thing but was too lazy to change it. I figured someone like you would point that out, then I could reply with a carefully crafted response, much like this one.

    My plan worked perfectly.

Wrong! It was in fact that it just wasn't playing. You know, new security settings being what they are.

No music here. I assume that it doesn't work in Seamonkey/Mozilla. :)

*checks IE* Yup, you're using an IE-specific script.

What in God's name is "Seamonkey"? You just HAVE to have the weirdest preferences, don't you? :D

First, the sound doesn't work for me in Firefox either. While Mozilla just does nothing, Firefox says I need a plugin to play some content on the page, then says I need Quicktime and that I need to manually install it, and then sends me to a page where it says I need Windows 2000/XP to get the required version of Quicktime. Thanks, Apple! :)

(for some reason though the audio plays just fine in IE...)

As for SeaMonkey, It's Mozilla's new name, essentially. Firefox, as I've said before, is Internet Explorer for Internet Explorer users, with a few additions that make it slightly better in a few ways than IE. SeaMonkey, on the other hand, is the decendant of the Mozilla Suite, and as such is a far superior browser for anyone who is a Netscape, and not an IE, person. I am, and as don't like Firefox much at all... when support for Mozilla (Suite) ended I wasn't sure what browser to go to next, but then I discovered that SeaMonkey wasn't just a new browser kind of like Mozilla, it WAS Mozilla, just with a new name and logo, and was happy. :)

    Firefox
+: runs a slightly newer version of integrated Windows Media Player than SeaMonkey does (more compatible with a few stupid sites' in-page videos)
+: loads slightly more quickly (nearly irrelevant when you just leave it running all the time)
-: interface realigned to have menus that look and are laid out like IE's. The design and style just isn't Mozilla! (poor look and feel, bad design from a Netscape/Mozilla user's perspective)
-: skin like IE's with no option to have the Netscape 6/7/Mozilla skin instead (a great skin I came to really like. Some users tried to make optional skins, but the results were not so great. No official option.)
-: removal of lots of features. Some can be restored with plugins, some just with external programs. (some of the preferences options, the included irc client, webpage editor, "new tab" button on the right end of the tab bar, various aspects of the onscreen display, etc, etc...
    -: And other things.

In short, "Why get used to something worse when a better alternative exists?"

Sears? Are we back in the 80s where that was the place to get videogames?

*checks IE* Yup, you're using an IE-specific script.

lazy is brilliant (shards, for enchanting gloves) because no one, and I mean NO ONE, is going to search frickin' SEARS for a Wii, except geniuses!

Sorry Etoven, but that's not what's being used here... the code is < embed src="http://www.tcforums.com/edenmaster/europe.mid" hidden="true" autostart="true" >< /div >. That doesn't look like a bgmusic tag to me. :)

I think I just need to tell SeaMonkey how to handle embedded midi files...

Ignoring the fact that this isn't BGSound, actually, the opposite is true. BGSound (I think that's the actual tag) is an IE-exclusive tag. Mozilla, as a Netscape-decendant browser, ignores MS's "we make the standards no matter what anyone else says" mentality and follows the actual standards... Firefox can support it with the proper plugin (and Windows XP/2000) because it's trying to be more IE-compatible, but that doesn't change the fact that the blame is on Microsoft for refusing to follow standards (such as MS Java vs. actual Java...), not Mozilla for not liking the way MS wants everyone to use their own proprietary systems and not generally agreed on ones.

We have a Sears... they cut back their game department to almost nothing years ago. I wonder if they'll have any Wiis... probably not; since it's right next to Kay-Bee, people will probably actually look there...
