Half Life 2, along with Doom 3, is going on my list of games that will never run on my computer.

I knew Doom 3 was coming out on the Xbox, but I didn't know that Half-Life 2 was.
I do have an Xbox, btw.

In comparison to whatever computer you had in mid 2003, my computer, which hasn't changed since then, runs Half-Life 2 decently... :)
(what? I just played the demo for the first time today, and while the framerate isn't great, it's perfectly playable, and the graphics are amazing...)

Actually, both Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 ran on my computer although Doom 3 ran at a low framerate.
Half-Life 2 is awesome, by the way.

Doom 3 doesn't, since I don't have XP... but Half-Life 2 looks better on this thing than it should, I'd say... sure, I'm just running it at 800x600 and medium settings, but even so it looks amazing.
... any way to turn on a framerate display? (not that I'll be keeping it for long, I bet... it's not a hugely long demo and it's an insane 3.5GBs in size...) Most of the games in Steam are either pay-to-own, stupid casual-gamer puzzle games, require XP, or require a better graphics card than I have, but the Half-Life 2 and Darwinia demos do work. Oh... is my display messed up, or does it not tell you how much ammo you have left? There's an "ammo" thing on the bottom of the screen, but it's just an empty box... same for health, there's no numeric display.

And in several months, new episode 2 comes out! Episodic content is... actually taking about as long to develop as the regular kind. So... what makes this any different than standard sequels that have been around since forever again? More cliffhangers?

The time span between Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 was only a year-and-a-half. The gap between Episode 1 and Episode 2 looks to be about one year. So, the time between Half-Life 2 and Episode 3 will probalby be between three-and-a-half and four years. So, to answer your question, in total the wait for the full episodic game will be only slighlty less than the wait for a "full" sequel, only the game is broken into parts that you can play during that four year wait.
