...I'm basically wondering if it would be possible for someone, say Blizzard, to make a spectawesulum Mario based strategy game. I'm thinking it would need to be real time or something, and it would totally use the remote.

I'd totally control the koopa troop.

ANYTHING is possible, but it's probably not too likely.

Anything? Not last time I checked, and I doubt you have the evidence to back up that claim :D.

Examples of impossible things: Squaring the circle, escaping the horizon of a black hole intact, pi being equal to 3...

I'm asking if you would play such a game or if you think it could be fun or "Mario-ish".

Damn you DJ, I thought that there was actually going to be a Mario strategy game when I saw the title. I would say that a turn-based strategy game like Fire Emblem would better fit the Mario universe. Real-time would work, but I think turn-based would be more enjoyable. Of course, I am predisposed to like any good turn-based strategy game so I am not the most unbiased source of the matter.

I could see that, but every single "turn" has to involve crazy Mario action like timed hits ala the Mario RPGs or altogether new animal. In fact, that would be pretty cool. Yeah, a turn based strategy game with a lot of action elements! Like, if you are the Mushroom Kingdom, if you want to move some troops, one at a time, over to "that side", you have to actually jump over those fields, and maybe hit that floating block, and so on, with a maximum limit on how far you can move and how many times you can jump or whatever. So platformer in moving your troops with strategy game limits, and the battle involve timed action elements (perhaps as involved as the Mario & Luigi games got), and the rest is classic strategy. Also maybe some puzzle solving to "find the 8 red coins" on each map :D.

    Yeah, that could be awesome.

Namco x Capcom, but with Nintendo characters... (if you don't know of the game, look it up! Japan-only PS2 tactics game, looks great... but of course it's not coming out here. Remember, for every two great games you make, one has to be Japan-only!

I read about that game, and it looked interesting, but it is still traditional tactics, and not the crazy go nuts dream I have of crazy Mario action superimposed on a tactic game framework.

You could command mushroom armies and goomba armies, and they'd have at one another in such vistas as the Mushroom Kingdom and Yoshi's Island.

I love RTS. I'd be willing to give it a try...unless it was handled by Blizzard, then I'd definately have to buy it. Blizzard wouldn't release it unless it was pure gold...

OMG! A Blizzard/Intelligent Systems co-designed Mario tactics game overseen by Shigeru Miyamoto.

I'm pretty sure that such a game would have to be outlawed because it would be too much fun.

...why not just throw Rare in there too, so that we'd have a game that never ends. You have to spend 50923509 hours collecting useless items to win the game!

(this from the man who has played JFG so many times he can beat Mizar the 2nd time in under 7 hours)

Wasn't C&C Renegade supposed to be a FPS played in an RTS world? You had all the units from the RTS game? StarCraft Ghost started out that way too.

Perhaps Nintendo could come up with a sidescrolling platformer set in an RTS world? ...Or an RTS set in a sidescrolling platformer world! Or an RPG set in a pinball game! ...scratch that last one.

The problem is, it wouldn't come out until the next millenium... :)

Quote:I'm pretty sure that such a game would have to be outlawed because it would be too much fun.

Looking at that seriously though, that wouldn't work and you know it. :) Only one developer can make a game... and IS has never made an RTS. Other strategy games yes, but not RTS... :) (I know, I know, thinking of it seriously isn't the point, but still...)

Yeah... it ended up pretty much just being an FPS though, I think. There are, however, a few first-person RTSes -- Uprising, Battlezone (the late '90s one) and its sequel Battlezone 2. The idea didn't quite catch on, obviously, and I never really liked them, but the games have their fans... but they aren't on-foot games, you're first person in a vehicle.

...I could also mention Dungeon Keeper, but that game's first person mode is somewhat different. It's just for the combat part, not the strategy, and it's optional (though recommended at times, I'd say).

Played Pinball Quest before Biggah? It's pretty much pinball/rpg, and it is actually a very fun and addictive game, even if it did only sell 12 copies total. It was an old NES game that easily beat Nintendo's own pinball offering.
