Funny, but Microsoft already beat them to this. I believe it was either last year's E3 or last year's GDC where MS got caught doing the same thing for 360 demos.

I just found out while reading GAF that the Wii games were running off what looked like black GameCubes that take 12cm discs.

Ah, so that's what those are, not just modified Gamecubes but Revolution devkits that use full-sized discs...

They just got lazy on the "shell" part of things, that's all. Gutting a gamecube and stuffing Rev hardware in there is easy, so that's what they did, it seems.

The funniest thing ever was I was going to get a PS3 at launch and Wii as well.

But you know, with the $600 price tag (that's a month's rent in some areas of Southern California!), combined with the fact that the machine's Blu-Ray player is going to be on par with the DVD player in the PS2, games coming in @ $60 a pop, and the fact that Sony had such a poor showing @ E3.....

I was thinking of pulling a Ryan and buying a PS3 just to sell it on eBay for a profit, but I'm worried now that the demand might not be there like it was for the PS2 or 360.

I imagine there will be a high demand at launch, but probably not for very long.

I think you'd have more luck getting a profit selling a Wii on ebay then you would a PS3. I dont see hordes of people saying i need GT HD now! or oh my god I need Warhawk! With 360 you had PDZ which sold at almost a 1:1 ratio with the hardware but the biggest seller was CoD (I have no idea why, probably becase of the prerendered commercials) and PGR which in both cases had success on XBox1.

While GT definitely has an audience, it's not people who are going to shell out upwards of 650 USD to get it (especially when it doesn't look much better than the last GT), the same can be said about that game with the ninja girl had a pretty lackluster showing at E3 (people complained about draw distance and clunky controls, expecting the prerendered movie shown last year to be actual gamelay).

And even if MGS4 makes it to launch, the only people that will be an early adopter are people with credit cards and willing to max them out or parents with too much money, which are not common

Now tie all of this in with the idea that people are disapointed in PS3, with bad publicity from Sony's own fans, and you have yourself a bad launch.

Granted both PSX and PS2 had a bad launch but that was strictly because of available software, there's a major uphill battle for sony to persuade people that they need a PS3. Finally, as 360 got closer to launch, the XBox1 was dropped like a bad habit by all of MS's second and third parties basically forcing people in to upgrading, factor in that the PS2 is still being pushed by Sony with tons of games coming including high-tier titles like God of War 2 and I just dont see the demand for PS3.

People are going to be thinking and reasoning their purchase, especially with the cheaper PS3 (360 :D) with beautiful graphics available that rival everything on PS3 and Wii with its totally different way of playing and just a step or two from 360 graphics.

Imagine this scenario, PS3 launches a month or two after Wii. We'll use the DS as a model; by the first week it launches there will be a million people online with Wii, Zelda will be selling like crack with Metroid and Mario at the same levels and another 20 or so games to choose from with some of more bizarre titles racking in alot of sales, systems flying off the shelves with people buying 3 or 4 games at launch (and still cheaper than a 360 or PS3). then MS announces a price drop, premium 360 package for $450 and core at $350, screenshots of games that look graphically superior to anything shown on PS3 the talk of the town as 360's are chosen over PS3's for Jimmy's christmas because he couldn't get one last year as they were too expensive (or because Jimmy wont shut up) and the PS3 is just going to turn more people off with its outrageous price.

Nintendo throws in another good deal, DS Lite packed with Mario for $130 or DS Lite for $100 and then a final cap, Game Cube for 75 bucks new with various pack-ins and this is just a guess; Zelda: TP for GC free when you buy the GC.

i dont think it will be a massacre for Sony, they'll have a decent launch. But if you compare it to how Wii, DSL, Xbox 360 and even the GC is going to do this Christmas, it will be a distant last place.

So i definitely dont reccomend getting a PS3 for ebay until we see a demand for it. if there is a demand, i'm sure ryan can sneak some PS3's in to a closet so we can buy them for ebaying which is exactly he'll be doing as well :D But only if there's a demand oviously.
