Quote:Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that its epic sci-fi action shooter exclusive for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Lost Planet™: Extreme Condition, has again received top honors when it was recently awarded Best Xbox 360 Game at this year’s Leipzig Games Convention held on August 24-27. Voted upon by a panel of distinguished judges consisting of influential journalists, Lost Planet surpassed the other nominations with the enormous interest generated by the debut of its multiplayer modes at the show.

Leipzig Games Convention was chosen by Capcom as the perfect venue to debut Lost Planet’s multiplayer mode and many gamers from across Germany eagerly waited to experience the intense and frenetic combat the game has to offer.

“With more than 180,000 people in attendance, the Leipzig Games Convention provided a great opportunity for gamers to experience Lost Planet’s gripping single player campaign and multiplayer modes,” Charles Bellfield, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment, Inc. “We are extremely pleased to have won the Best Xbox 360 Game award as it is a testament to its unrivalled gameplay experience.”

In Lost Planet, human snow pirates navigate VS (Vital Suits) through unforgiving arctic environments, fighting against the indigenous Akrid creatures for the precious thermal energy they need to survive. For one such pilot named Wayne, death almost seemed imminent until he was fortunately rescued. However, he can only remember a few fragments of his past including the slaying of his father by these enigmatic menaces. Yet under the shroud of ice, a devious plot has been set into motion by the Neo Venus Construction Corporation (NEVEC). What really happened to Wayne and how will his destiny become intertwined with NEVEC’s plans? Encounter valuable allies and dangerous enemies on Wayne’s search for the truth when Lost Planet is released in January 2007.

    Gears of War won E3.
    Lost Planet won GC.
TGS is the only show left...Blue Dragon anyone? ;)

    It's a good time to be a 360 owner.

Lost Planet? That game? I played the demo. Not that great if that's any indication of what standard gameplay is like...

errr...it's been receiving quite a bit of critical praise actually. The multiplayer aspect revealed at Leipzig was apparently what won people over.

Everything I've heard about the game so far has been very positive...

Well I haven't seen the multiplayer aspect. All I've seen is the single player demo I got from Live. From that I would describe the game as "typical".

If that demo didn't convey the rest of the game, then that's good. If the multiplayer is completely amazing, that too is good. From the demo I played, that's not the case.

I played the demo (in a store), it seemed okay but not really anything that special, and I really hate having to play FPSes with dual analog sticks... I managed through part of the Prey demo, but had a much harder time in Lost Planet, probably because you have to aim up and down quite a bit, and I'm not at all used to that control scheme... mouse and keyboard is so, so much better...

The aiming mechanics didn't get any easier when you piloted a mech? You do still pilot mechs, yes?

Lost planet, giant robots, main dude can pilot a 'robot' looking mech (or a mech looking robot) to blow up said robots... and everything is cold with snow and whatnot....

    Yes?

I swear to god I saw a video of it where it was third person, and you could jump in the robots Blaster Master style...

Hmm... there might be mechs, actually, but all I've seen of the game is on foot...

I'm almost 100% certain that it has a Blaster Master feel to it where being on foot is great to grab powerups, complete tasks in the buildings, and then you run outside in to your mech to actually fight the giant robots. I think the whole on foot aspect was more like 'see if you can make it to your mech without becoming man-pudding' and not meant to be the bulk of gameplay.

From the demo, there is mech action but it's actually limited. Like, every now and then "here's a vehicle" style third person shooting. Also, a bunch of insects with orange neon blood. Also, grappling hook and various guns. It just didn't really do anything for me. A slight addition to a typical formula here and there just doesn't grab me any more. The games are all starting to blend together. ... What, no clip? No clip? Thought we had a clip. Oh well.

FPSes all started to blend together a long time ago...
